What is emulsion aspiration?

Emulsion mist extraction is a process specifically designed to remove emulsion and oil mist from the air. In metalworking, drilling, turning, milling, and grinding generate dust and fine droplets that are released into the air as aerosols and remain there. Emulsion mist extraction systems capture these fine aerosols directly at their source and filter them from the air using a multi-stage filtration system. This process makes the working environment healthier and safer and, moreover, recovers some of the valuable cooling lubricants for reuse.

How do emulsion mists form?

Emulsion mist is primarily generated during machining processes in metalworking. These include drilling, turning, milling, and grinding. The main cause of emulsion mist formation is the use of cutting fluids (coolants), which atomize into fine particles when machining metal. Additionally, thermal processes promote the formation of emulsion mist: when the cutting fluids evaporate due to the heat generated during machining or come into contact with hot tools, small droplets and smoke are produced.

Other causes include the use of high-pressure pumps and compressed air guns, or evaporation from open containers. The resulting emulsion mist always consists of tiny droplets of a water-oil emulsion and disperses unhindered as an aerosol in the air.

How does the extraction system work?

The extraction system works through a multi-stage process. First, extraction hoods or openings capture the mist directly at the source and, using negative pressure, draw it through pipes to the filter. Here, the harmful aerosols are filtered from the air until it is purified and returned to the room or outdoors. The separated pollutants are simultaneously collected, disposed of, or recycled.

What is emulsion fog?

Emulsion mist is a fine mist consisting of liquid droplets up to 1 micrometer in size, suspended in the air like gases. These droplets are made up of an emulsion, meaning a mixture of two normally immiscible liquids. Such mist typically arises during industrial processes like metalworking, where oil or water-based emulsions are used as coolants.

How can an emulsion be stabilized?
